“BeautiFaux is an interactive design piece set in a dystopian future where beauty standards have evolved beyond the human form. The project critiques the unattainable ideals imposed on women, showcasing traits inspired by animals and otherworldly beings, sold through a sleek, e-commerce platform. BeautiFaux explores how societal pressures distort beauty, subtly exposing the absurdity of these evolving standards while questioning what it means to lose touch with humanity in the pursuit of perfection.”

A Timer on Timeless Beauty
Throughout history, beauty and personal care has consistently stood as one of the largest global industries. Though this market may be considered skin-deep, it is intricately woven with colonialist, racist, and colorist ideals forming a complex tapestry that shapes how beauty is perceived and defined. Marketing and advertisement have historically played a significant role in perpetuating these ideals, furthering Eurocentric beauty standards. From skin-lightening creams to hair straighteners, beauty products that have been marketed for people of color aim to strip their ethnic identities away. As a result, there remains a strong association between beauty and whiteness across the globe.
